What is Cellular Lightweight Concrete?

2023-07-07 06:15:02  News

Cellular Lightweight Concrete (CLC) is a concrete that uses Portland cement, fly ash, selected sand, water & preformed foam in varied proportions to create a material with a dry density between 300 & 1920 kg/m3.

The air-embedded in the cellular concrete gives it high thermal insulation – making it perfect for cold climates. It also has good sound absorbing properties. Additionally, it’s extremely fire resistant – as the air pockets inside prevent heat from spreading fast.

Unlike standard concrete, cellular concrete is not heavy and therefore much easier to work with on site. It can be made in large quantities at the construction site with a portable concrete plant and poured in place. This saves on transporting and craning work and can also reduce the amount of waste generated.

This type of concrete is ideal for retaining walls, ground stabilization, basements, foundation repairs, and filling sinkholes. It is also great for insulating floor and roofs of buildings and ponds. It can even be pumped to insulate and strengthen old floors. It can be used to repair tunnels and subways as well as stabilize soil and backfill for bridge approaches.

Cellular concrete is a green building material that is environmentally friendly. It does not emit any harmful gases and is termite-proof. It is also non-toxic and odorless. It does not deteriorate due to humidity and can withstand freezing conditions. It is also easy to work with – it can be cut with a saw and drilled easily using a drill.
