Where do you get aluminum nitride?

Aluminum Nitride is a composite, refractory ceramic material made with hexagonal-wurtzite structural elements. Blue-white is the pure aluminum Nitride, and gray-white is the Al Nitride Ceramic. Aluminum nitride is resistant to high temperatures, and can melt at 2800C under normal atmospheric conditions. This material is both thermally and electrically inert. Low losses and dielectric constants are also a feature of the material. It’s versatile and can be used in many applications, including lighting and optics as well as electronics and renewable energy.

Use of beryllium dioxide is discouraged due to its health hazards. BeO has been replaced by aluminum-nitride. This is due to the high thermal conductivity. From a functional perspective, aluminum-nitride’s CTE (thermal expansion coefficient) is significantly lower than beryllium, alumina and other metals. This permits better compatibility with CTE-equivalent silicon applications. It is also resistant to many chemicals and gases, making it ideal for semiconductor applications.
