Elon Musk announced today that Twitter will help lawmakers. He said the platform will offer new tools for government work. This move comes after Musk met with several political leaders last week.

Musk explained the plan directly. “Twitter can connect people and their representatives better,” he stated. “We aim to support the legislative process with technology.” He believes this will make lawmaking more open.
The main feature involves verified accounts for elected officials. Twitter will give special badges to confirm real government profiles. This badge system will start in the United States first. Other countries might follow later.
Another tool will let users comment on proposed laws. People could see bill details posted by officials. Then they could reply directly under that post. Their comments would be grouped and visible to everyone.
Twitter will also build computer programs. These programs will track how lawmakers discuss bills online. The goal is showing the public more about government talks. Musk thinks this increases trust.
The company sees this as a step toward better transparency. Musk often talks about Twitter’s role in public discussion. He wants the platform to be useful for democracy. He stated, “Technology should serve citizens and their leaders.”

Twitter engineers are already working on these features. Testing with selected government partners begins next quarter. A full launch is expected within the next year. Costs for governments using these tools were not shared today.
