Concrete foaming agent formula is a material used in making lightweight concrete products. This is a chemical mixture which includes water, cement and some surfactants. The process is relatively simple.
Generally, the formula for concrete foaming agent is composed of a mixture of alkaline and synthetic agents. These ingredients have been selected to produce a stable foam.
The amount of foaming agent required is calculated according to the bulk density requirement. A suitable ratio of 0.6 to 0.8% by weight of the cement is preferred.
When mixing with the mortar, the bigger bubbles tend to collapse first. For the best results, the bubble size should be ideally round. Otherwise, the pore structure may be unbalanced, resulting in unsuitable properties.
Moreover, foam concrete is produced using a low water-cement ratio. High ratios of 0.5 reduce the setting time, but decrease the strength of the concrete. Low water-cement ratio enables the production of air bubbles, which contribute to foam stability.
Alternatively, a bitumen emulsion can be added to the mixture before foaming. This is done to increase the plasticity of the mortar and render the foam more uniform.
The proportion of coarse fillers in the mixture is also important. Using too large a percentage of coarse fillers produces uneven pore structures, reducing the strength of the foam.
Lastly, a stabilizer is used in the mixture. Typically, a foam stabilizer is made up of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (40%) and triethanolamine (20%).
